How trivia works

Modes

  • Quick game5 questions, mixed categories.
  • Category10 questions from a single topic.
  • Daily challenge7 shared questions per day, one scored attempt per player.
  • Mixed challenge10 balanced questions across categories.

Scoring

Scoring is server-computed and deterministic. Nothing on your device is trusted:

  • 100 points for each correct answer.
  • Up to 40 points time bonus based on how much of the timer remains.
  • Up to 25 points streak bonus (+5 per consecutive correct answer).
  • No negative points for wrong answers. Streak resets on a miss.
  • No cash, credits, or discounts — trivia is for fun and learning.

Sources & question quality

Every published question includes an explanation. Factual and regulatory questions cite an authoritative source (U.S. Coast Guard, NOAA, California State Parks, California Division of Boating and Waterways, county water districts, or the official operator of the marina, harbor, or lake). Reviewers verify sources before publication and re-check changeable information.

Reporting a problem

If a question looks wrong, outdated, unclear, or has a broken image, use the Report menu after answering. Repeated credible reports flag a question for review. We keep session history intact even when a question is retired.

Leaderboards & privacy

Leaderboards are opt-in. You choose a short public display name (2–24 characters). Your email and account identity stay private. You can remove your leaderboard entry at any time by clearing your display-name opt-in. Guest players can also appear on the leaderboard — no email is required to play.

Daily challenge fairness

The daily challenge counts your first completed attempt for the day per account or guest device. Replays are allowed for practice but are not resubmitted to the leaderboard.
